Chondrus Crispus (Gold & Purple)

Irish Moss: Chondrus Crispus

Chondrus Crispus is the type of red algae (sea moss) predominantly found along the Atlantic coastline of Europe and North America. It is one of the two most popular types of sea moss. Called Carrageenan in Ireland, it has been consumed for centuries and was used to counteract nutritional deficiencies due to the Irish Potato Famine in the 1800s. Over time, this led to the Chondrus Crispus variety of sea moss being called 'Irish moss'. There are many types of 'sea moss' but the other most popular type, called Gracilaria, is mistakeningly marketed and sold as 'Irish moss'.

Chondrus crispus is the variety of sea moss Dr Sebi would use for it's healing benefits. This variety is generally regarded as the most potent and nutrient dense variety of sea moss.

Gracilaria (Purple & Gold)

Sea Moss: Gracilaria

Gracilaria is another type of red algae (sea moss) found in all oceans except the Arctic. It is found predominantly in warm waters as it struggles to survive in temperatures roughly below 10 °C (50 °F). It is the most widely used type of sea moss around the Caribbean Islands such Honduras (Dr Sebi's home nation), St. Lucia, Jamaica and other Caribbean countries. It is popular for its multiple health benefits and it is also widely used as a natural aphrodisiac and libido restorer.

It grows in a dark hue, typically purple and when it is left exposed to the sun, it loses it's pigmentation turning a gold colour.

Bladderwrack & Burdock Root

In modern times, the majority of people outside the Caribbean and Irish community were introduced to sea moss via the wisdom of the great Dr Sebi. Through his teachings, it has been promoted that adding bladderwrack to sea moss gel will add the remaining minerals that sea moss does not have to provide the body with every mineral it requires.

Though this claim has been disputed, it is undeniable that bladderwrack has a plethora of health benefits such as improving thyroid and heart health.

Burdock root is a potent cleanser. It is packed with multiple powerful antioxidants, fights certain types of cancer, cleansing toxins in the blood and also has aphrodisiac properties.
