Chondrus crispus has a plethora of benefits due to the vast amount of nutrients it contains.

Gold Irish Seamoss is called ‘sun bleached’ when it is dried in direct sunlight. This is because when it is exposed to the sun, it loses its pigmentation and turns a golden colour. Similar to how a blackberry left in direct sunlight will turn red.

An antioxidant called anthocyanins are what gives Seamoss and fruits such as purple grapes and blackberries their dark hue, so it is believed that as Seamoss turns from purple to gold it loses some of its antioxidant content, specifically anthocyanins.

Although non sun bleached sea moss is claimed to contain higher nutritional content than sun bleached sea moss, numerous people also report various advantages from consuming gold (sun bleached) sea moss.
